Navigating the murky waters of coral vendors isn’t as simple as buying snorkels. In my experience, finding a coral supplier that’s not only honest, but knowledgeable about our hobby is like trying to find a needle in a haystack. Time and again, I’ve allowed myself to be duped by suppliers who promise brilliantly healthy corals, but only to be disappointed.
In a marketplace where marketers blast their messages at full volume, it’s almost impossible to hear the beautiful melodies of a quality vendor.
While low-quality companies hope consumers will succumb to their noisy advertising campaigns and inflated claims, Boom Corals slices through the symphony of disjointed efforts. Renowned throughout the reefing community, this vendor offers far more than a solid product. In my opinion, which is shared by anyone who’s had the pleasure of ordering from this supplier, Boom Corals is among the rarest of resources.
I recently had the pleasure of ordering and reviewing Boom Corals. And let me tell you, it won’t be the last time. Here’s my official Boom Corals vendor review. Enjoy!
About the Vendor:
One of the most important questions to ask any potential vendor is about their experience within the reefing community. This is an excellent way to determine whether a company is hoping to earn a few extra bucks or provide hobbyists with a solid resource for not only coral, but also information.
Not to say that a company with little real world experience as a reefer can’t be a reputable supplier, but in my experience, only those who truly understand the intricacies of reefing consistently provide superior products.
When it comes to Boom Corals, you’ll be hard-pressed to find another vendor that’s as dedicated and integrated into our hobby as its founder, Matt. Starting his adventure into the watery world we love so much back in the early 2000s, Matt poured his life into understanding and mastering the art of reef keeping.
After a while, he realized that his unique ability to cultivate breathtaking corals is something all reefers desire, but few achieve. Ultimately, it wasn’t his wish to get rich off the backs of hobbyists that triggered the start of Boom Corals. Rather, it’s his desire to demonstrate just how brilliant our hobby can be if, of course, you have the right species.
If you spend time browsing the popular online community, Reef2Reef, then you’ve likely read Boom Corals ingenious tips, guidance and advice. With over 4,000 posts, and 5,728 likes received and thousands of mentions, Matt hasn’t simply started a successful business. His passion and knowledge have helped countless reefers achieve the greatness within their own reef tanks.
As an avid reader of this forum, I’ve personally enjoyed hearing about his experience and learning new and innovative techniques. Two my personal favorite include:
While I could go on about Boom Corals, I don’t want to spoil the surprise. After all, once you see just how amazing his product is, you’ll be vying to get your hands on his superior coral species, and by his first year sales reports, you’ll be in good company.
In an astonishing 1,371 orders, Boom Corals sold approximately 5,400 frags in the first year. Of course, it’s not all about sales and figures. What surprises me most is his repeat customer statistic. With an over 75% repeat customer rate, Matt is obviously doing something right!
For curiosity sake, his most popular coral within this first year of business included: Cliff’s Acropora, Garf Bonsai and ORA Red Planet, while the most expensive coral is the WWC OG Bounce Mushroom. This brilliant coral sold for a hefty $399, but if you’ve ever seen one, then you understand why.

How to Order:
Now, it’s time to get to the good stuff. As you’d anticipate with a quality supplier, ordering was quick, secure and straightforward. His website is professionally maintained and surprisingly easy to navigate.
Yes, Boom Corals isn’t the most beautiful website. In fact, it’s relatively basic. But, contrary to what pricey web designers want the public to think, sometimes simplicity truly is best. Navigation and content are extremely easy to understand, but what I appreciate about this rather uninspired visual design is how it perfectly highlights the beauty of his corals.
I’m not going to dive into the specifics of how to order. If you’ve ever purchased anything online, you already know the drill.
What I do want to touch on is something that I’ve rarely (if ever) seen in a coral vendor: 2 Week Guarantee. Yes, you read that right. Boom Corals completely covers the health and brilliance of any coral sold via this shop for a solid two weeks. Should you encounter any problems, such as acropora shock during shipping, simply contact Matt and he’ll tirelessly work to rectify the situation.
This, my dearest reefer, is one of the best guarantee you can get from online vendors.
Shipping:
As of this review, Boom Corals ships via FedEx. Another nice benefit is the shipping delay/problem guarantee. Basically, if your corals are delayed due to shipping complications, Boom Corals will do whatever it takes to ensure you receive a product worthy of your time and money. Yet again, this is a rarity among vendors and a true sign of a quality company.
Here’s some additional info about shipping:
- Corals are professionally packaged to prevent damage during transit.
- Packaging is delightful, the box has the Boom Corals logo, which was an exciting sight on delivery day.
- Within the package, there’s a sealed envelope with a hand signed Thank You card, which goes to show the level of personalization and care Matt puts into each and every order.
Corals:
To say I was pleased with the quality and health of my corals would be a huge understatement. Out of all the corals I’ve purchased online, these were some of the healthiest and most brilliant. This obviously has more to do with how corals are raised than shipping quality.
In all his tanks, Matt runs Hamilton 20k halide with Hamilton ballasts and Lumen Bright pendants. In terms of care, he doesn’t dose anything to enhance corals, which demonstrates the pristine environment he’s crafted for the growing corals. He only feeds fish with frozen V2O Foods and leverages the power of HW Weigandt Marine Mix Reefer Salt and a Reef Octopus Calcium Reactor for Alkalinity/Calcium.
Additionally, he performs a 10% water change every two weeks and raves about his Clearwater Scrubber (Gee, I wonder why?! Check out our official review and see what makes this scrubber so popular among professional reefers).

Official Reef Hacks Recommended Vendor.
Overall, corals were on perfectly clean frag plugs and there was no sign of degradation or allergy symptoms. All corals were 100% free from pests and had brilliant coloration. The most exciting revelation wasn’t how corals were fully healed and encrusted on the plug, but rather, their size! These were huge in comparison to many other vendors.
Summary:
Overall, Boom Corals receives my highest recommendation. From coral options to the seriously rare level of service offered by Matt, Boom Corals isn’t your standard vendor. What are you waiting for? Check out Boom Corals and experience the ease and comfort of dealing with a superior coral supplier.
